1N our issue dated Fehruary'16th we gave brief details of an important contract entered into by the Commissioners of Dublin for municipal work in the city, on which De Dion vehicles are to be used: We are now informed that the ,vehicles Ordered comprise 34 tip wagons, for the collection of refuse, and 10 combined sweepers and sprinklers. The refuse-collecting lorries are being mounted on the 4-ton De Dion chassis with a Specially leugthened wheelbase. This chassis has a governed engine with a bore of 100 man and a stroke of 140 Men: and a four-speed gearbox. The plate clutch employed has been specially designed to withstand the very hard wear entailed by the work of house-to-house refuse collection. The tipping gear is of the Wood horizontal hydraulic type in which two rollers carried on the cross-head of the piston rod operate directly upon the big cams fitted under the body of the wagon. The oil cylinder itself is placed horizontally in the ellassis. The oil pressure is obtained ha a simple gearwheel type of pump driven off the engines An automatic cable-operated device opens the tail flat) of the body when the correct angle of
