A STOKE-ON-TRENT skip-hire 3perator has been fined £2,000 with £600 costs for operating an Illegal waste management site.

Mark Tittensor, trading as Andy's Skip Hire, pleaded guilty :o four charges relating to illegally Jepositing and keeping waste without a licence. Newcastle-under-Lyme magistrates heard that on 14 December 2004, Environment Agency officers visited Tittensor's premises after receiving a report from a member of the public.

They found a line-up of 26 orange skips bearing the name Andy's Skip Hire'. Eleven of these skips were filled with waste including soil and wood. Another 25 skips were spotted in April; seven were filled with controlled waste.

An EA spokesman adds:"Operating without a licence poses an unacceptable risk to the environment and we will not hesitate to take action if we find this taking place."
