We caught up with the latest registration, an ex-demo 420 6x2 tag axle as it was serviced prior to delivery to Didcotbased operator Ron Coles.

Since we last looked at an AE (September 1992) Renault has introduced the ACE engine range. This new generation of engines is said to last up to 30% longer and have lower specific fuel consumption. We took a look at the more powerful 420hp AE in 6x2 guise at Renault's wholly-owned dealer Renault Reading. Technician Steve Rush was about to give it a B service prior to its new owner using it to haul a load to Germany.

The latest AEs come equipped with a fully instrumented engine for trouble shooting via Diagnostica, Renault's diagnostic computer. Fuelling, however, is a fully mechanical system and not controlled by electronics.
