loads per week will be transferred to rail with the launch of the Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal. The site, next to )18 of the Ml, will open by the end of next year. Bypasses will be built around several Northants villages to cope with the growth in road traffic serving the terminal.
In another move from road to rail, Central Railway plans a rail link from the Midlands to the Chunnel capable of carrying loaded trucks: it needs to raise more than 5m to get the scheme off the ground. A blow to container hauliers working out of Thamesport comes this week with a new ship feeder service linking the southeast port with Falmouth, Cornwall.
