Details of a Dennis Model which is Suitable for All-the-Year

Round Service.

TN -OILING recent months we have re1../ furred on several occasions to saloon busts in which the special passenger chassis designed and constructed by Dennis Bros., Ltd., of Guildford, is employed, and the impression may possibly have been created in the minds of some of our readers that this model, with a 15-ft. wheelbase, is specifically intended for public-service vehicles of this description. If this be the case, then the illustration reproduced on this page will dispel an erroneous idea, for it will be seen that this ehaSsis can also be used to serve as the basis of a motor coach.

The particular vehicle illustrated is a 30-seater, of which Messrs. • Park Garage, of Coventry, have recently taken delivery. This company already own several Dennis coaches, and their latest purchase is a typically modern product,, in the cc:instruction of which several interesting features are introduced.

The body is also a Dennis production and has been built to give the utmost comfort to passengers. In this direction it will be noted that adequate provision against draughts and cross-currents of wind is given to the occupants of the vehicle by the use of side curtains, and those fitted above the doors are made to open with them. If overhead protection is also required, the hood can be drawn into position without disturbing curtains or doors. The side curtains extend the full length of the coach and connect with the front screen and the rear covering without leaving gaps through which rain or dust can find their way into the coach.

Another detail dealing with protection concerns the windscreen. The half on the near side, which is in one piece, may be adjusted to suit passengers' wishes, whilst that on the off side is made in two sections, each of which can be adjusted independently. This is important, because it ensures that the driver's view of the road is not impeded in rainy weather, for the lower section of his part of the screen will keep the wet out and, by hinging the smaller section at the top, a narrow slit is left which is sufficient to give a clear view ahead. The body is built on pleasing lines, and the taper of the bonnet contributes to create a well-proportioned appearance. It is painted an attractive shade of grey, and carries the owners' monogram, which is executed in gold. The equipment of the vehicle includes festoon lamps a 12-volt Lucas lighting set, and a feature is the fitting of two to the hoodsticks. Dunlop pneumatic tyresof 36 ins. by 6 ins. dimensions are used, singles being fitted on.the front and nd twins on thoseat the rear. A spare is carried beneath the frame. This Dennis coach would appear to • be very suitable for high-class travel, particularly as the chassis has been expressly designed for passenger work and the body gives adequate protection irrespective of weather conditionS.
