Beckett, Laycock and Watkinson, Ltd., Acton Lane, London, NAVA% have recently introduced a new type of Beelawat silent spring channel,' the purpose of which is to provide an alternate form of channel for certain types of window.
In construction, the metal channel comprises a special rolled-brass section with projecting lips turned inwards and downwards. Along the bottom and one side is a strip of good-quality black felt, which is so fitted that it is tucked under one of the projecting lips of the brass channel. Under the lip of the other side of the channel is a flat spring of phosphor-bronze, which is made solely for the purpose. Its thickness is so gauged as to give just that necessary pressure on the surface of the glass to prevent rattle, and at the same time permit perfect freedom of movement.
The spring is covered with a serviceable grade of velvet, which gives to the channel a neat and attractive appear once, and, moreover, ensures silence in
operation and a smooth sliding movement. The channel is practically everlasting, any wear being taken up automatically. Its use prevents involuntary movement of the window, but ensures instantaneous opening cimperative for traffic signalling) and closing.
The channel is made in two widths and depths for glass of 3-164n. and dimensions respectively. It can be supplied in brass, nickel-plate, aluminium or with a black lacquer finish, the price in each case being quite moderate.
