Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Unaccompanied British trailers which are collected in French ports for delivery in France will no longer have to be pulled by French-registered tractors.

From 1 August tractive units registered in any EC state will be allowed to tow EC trailers in France, as long as the haulier has a cabotage permit and CMR cover. Trailers can stay in France for the duration of the cabotage permit up to a maximum of six months.

The Road Haulage Association says the move comes after two years of "delicate negotiations" with the French authorities.
