ENGINE A E C type AV691, 6-cylinder vertical, 4-stroke direct injection diesel. Bore, 5.12 in. (130 mm); stroke, 3,59 in. (142 min); capacity, 690 Cu. in. (11310 cu. cm). Output, up to 205 b.h.p. at 2200 r.p.m.; torque, 573 lb-ft at 1200 r.p.m. Normal setting, 187 b.h.p. at 2000 r.p.m.; torque. 544 lb-ft. Integral crankcase and cylinder block casting with dry cylinder liners. Two cylinder heads with renewable alloy iron valve seat inserts. Valves have chromium plated stems and stellite faced seats. Masked inlet valves. Alloy steel counterbalanced seven-bearing crankshaft with damper. Distributor type fuel injection pump. Oil bath air cleaner. Alternative Engine. CLUTCH Hydraulically operated single dry plate; area of friction surface, 268 sq. in.

GEARBOX Six forward speeds (with overdrive) and reverse; constant mesh except first and reverse which are sliding mesh; unit-mounted with engine. Ratios: 1st, 7.17:1; 2nd, 4.45:1; 3rd, 2.54:1; 4th, 1.53:1; 5th, 1:1; 6th (overdrive), 0.75:1; reverse. 7.49:1.

FRONT AXLE Forged 'I' section beam with stub axles 21 in. dia. Hubs mounted on taper roller bearings.

REAR AXLE Fully floating double reduction, s9irril bevel/ double helical drive unit. Ratios: 5.68:1, 6.25:1, 7.08:1 or 7.89:1.

STEERING Recirculatory ball, worm and nut. Ratio, 35.2:1 or 6,-1 turns from lock to lock.

BRAKES Air pressure operated footbrake on all wheels. Single leading shoe, cam expanded. Air-assisted mechanical handbrake to rear wheels. Provision for 3-line trailer brakes. Hand control operates tractor front brakes and trailer auxiliary line. arake drums 15+ in, dia.; linings, + in. thick x 6 in. wide front and 8 in. wide rear. Footbrake friction area, 832 sq. in, Handbrake fiction area, 476 sq. in. Separate reservoirs for (a) tractor service brakes. (b) emergency braking and (c) trailer service and emergency line and power-assisted parking brake. Audible low pressure warning.

SUSPENSION Semi-elliptic leaf springs 3 in, wide front and 3+ in, wide rear. Telescopic double-acting hydraulic dampers on front axle.

FRAME Bolted construction. Channel section side and cross members. Maximum section, 9+ in, deep x 2+ in. flange width x 5/16 in. thick. Front bumper and twin front towing eyes. WHEELS AND TYRES 10,00-20 high load radial steel cord tyres on 137.0 three-piece discs, single front and twin rear. Spare wheel and tyre with carrier.

ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT 24-volt insulated return light ing and starting. Alternator of 30 amp maximum output, with transistorised control. Lead-acid batteries of 110 amp-hr capacity. Side lamps, headlamps, combined rear lamp units, twin horns, direction indicators.

INSTRUMENTS Speedometer with total distance recorder, oil pressure gauge, air pressure gauge, water temperature gauge. ammeter, indicator lights for generator and headlamps main beam.

ERGOMATIC CAB All steel construction; resiliently mounted to frame; arranged to tilt forward for access to engine. Deep curved one-piece windscreen of zone toughened glass; quarter lights front and rear; rear view windows. Low non-slip steps and wide doors, opening 90°. 7 kW fresh air heater/demister; air operated windscreen wipers; built-in washer jets; two-way adjustable driver's seat.
