QEVEN TEEN resolutions tabled for the • 64th annual conference of the Labour Party at Blackpool next September lay heavy stress on the Government's lack of progress towards integration and nationalization in the transport field.
The "heavy guns" of socialism are led by substantial resolutions from four big unions -the NUR, TSSA, ASLEF and TGWU. All of them call for socialist transport plans to be implemented. ASLEF says that present chaotic conditions can be adequately met only by nationalization of the transport industry, which should be implemented "as a matter of urgency ", The NUR calls for a halt to rail closures, rapid co-ordination of all services and a new transport act "based on socialist principles ".
TSSA says that the Geddes doctrine of greater freedom and competition would be a retrograde step. This union calls for the appointment to transport boards of persons "who believe in the principle of a nationalized, co-ordinated transport system ".
The TGWU calls for the creation of a new authority responsible for co-ordination and integration, backed by regional supervision of freight and passenger transport.
