• A reward has been offered for the conviction of three criminals who tried to abduct a lorry driver in a south London street.

The reward was offered last week when the BBC TV programme Crimewatch featured the case of Paul Light from Chatham. Kent who was attacked by three men at the end of November.

Light, 25, thinks he was followed by two cars as he drove his lorry from Snodland in Kent, on 29 November. At around 05.30hrs as he drove along Lewisham Way, south London, the drivers of the two cars faked an accident, bringing Light and his load of sweets and cigarettes to a halt. They then assaulted and handcuffed him and tried to throw him in the back of a red Astra.

The criminals were foiled from stealing the .C18,000 load after members of the public intervened.

Police need information about the three white men and their cars. The second car, a silver BMW saloon, reg M817 PWL, was stolen from Hampstead two days before. The first man is about 30 years old, 5ft 10in, with a stocky build. He was wearing a blue woollen hat. The second was around 32 years old, 6ft 4in and stocky. The third is described as around 30 years old.
