Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

'y VOUR issue dated January 16 contained a letter from OUR E. Walls, of Walls' Motor Tours, Ltd., Wigan, which was of great interest to us. Unfortunately, the writer of this letter failed to state the length of time during which this company had existed and whether in any application it had made, it was the established operator.

On only one occasion when we had proved the need for a service was a licence granted to a B.T. operator on our proof of need.

Having made extensive applications for licences, when we are the established operators, grants have been made for tours to Edinburgh, Blackpool. London and the "Tulip Fields," and express services to Leeds, Birmingham and Nottingham. On most of these applications there have been objections by the Big Two.

With regard to the question of publicity for the passenger transport industry in the national Press, which was raised by your correspondent, we find that most Traffic Court proceedings are published in the daily Press on the mornings following the hearings by the Licensing Authority.

Our experience is that where, by giving sound evidence, the need has been proved, i.e., that existing facilities have hitherto been inadequate to meet that need, licences have always been granted.

In consequence of this we feel that, as a small private operator, we have always been treated very fairly by the Licensing Authority.

G. E. MULLEY, Mulleys Motorways. Ixworth and Bury St. Edmunds.
