• As a Brit, who passed the HGV test in Scotland, and drove trucks in Britain and on the Continent for five years, I believe that CM's campaign to improve training standards can only be for the best interests of the British transport industry...

As a qualified and registered driving instructor with a registered training company in France, I had to pass the car driving instructor exam and the LGV driving instructor exam before being legally able to give driving lessons. The LGV driving instructor exam includes mechanical knowledge, a personal driving evaluation, a reversing exercise and a demonstration of reversing an LGV within a confined area between cones.

French law obliges instructors to have these qualifications and all CV schools must be registered with the local authorities and chamber of commerce. The company I work for insists that instructors have a minimum Five years experience of LGV driving...
