DETAILS of changes for some cif the MAN-VW vehicle ranges for 1980 have been announced.

The MAN eight-wheeler is to be fitted with a higher rear axle ratio, and the 16.240 and 16.280 tractive units can be supplied as standard with rear air suspension, and taper or multileaf front. These last two vehicles are also available in modified form to meet not only Home Office petroleum regulations but also refinery regulations.

All MAN vehicles for the UK will be fitted with laminated windscreens and Michelin tyres.

For the eight-wheeler, the exhaust silencer is repos itioned behind the second steered axle, and a vertical stack option will be available later in the year, when tractive units featuring the turbocharged and inter-cooled MAN 321 range of engines will also be introduced.

Following on from the announcement of the MAN 10.136F (CM, February 16) which was first seen at the Frankfurt Show, MAN-VW has unveiled plans for other models including 12.5-, 14.5and I6-tonners.

Although they will use the VW LT cab, it will be much modified with wider wheel arches and other changes to suit its new role.

The same basic power units too will be employed, but it will be turbocharged to give the necessary power. The new vehicles will come on stream in 1981/2.

For 1980 the LT range is unchanged, but a larger wheelbase option and crew cab are to be available.
