• The Traders Road Transport Association has asked the MoT to revise the "correct inflation provisions" in the tyre maintenance regulations due to come into operation on April 1.
The TRTA says the regulation is worded far too generally and might lead to a position where any variation from a manufacturer's recommended inflation pressure could give rise to prosecution.
It is virtually impossible, says the TRTA, to ensure correct inflation at all times. What, for example, would be the position when a driver limped along with a slow puncture.
