• The Minister of Transport has agreed to receive a deputation from Newcastle on Tyne Corporation on Tuesday to discuss the Transport Bill. The Corporation complains that under the Bill its profitable transport undertaking, which has never been a charge on the rates, and is currently worth £31m, would be taken over without compensation.
It has also protested that Tynside ratepayers would have to bear the heavy loss on local railway services.
