AT last the Northern Area of the Road Haulage Association has had an interview with the Northern Group of Labour Members of Parliament regarding hauliers' complaints that their permits were being unfairly revoked by the Road Haulage Executive.

It is understood that at the meeting, the M.P.s agreed that some strong cases of hardship had been made out and they promised to investigate the matter. It is expected that they will seek an interview with Lord Hurcomb, chairman of the British Transport Commission

The R.H.A. submitted to the M.P.s about 100 cases of hardship involving hauliers with only a small number of vehicles.

PRAISE FOR ROE BODIES

ATRIBUTE to the quality of the coachwork produced by Charles H. Roe, Ltd., Leeds, was paid by Ald.

George Lumsden, chairman of the transport committee, at a meeting of Sunderland Town Council, last week. The council accepted the company's tender of £21,960 for the supply of 12 56-seater bus bodies, to be mounted on Daimler chassis.

Aid. Lumsden said that the company had been building double-deck bodies for the corporation for many years and although it was recognized that eight years was the average life of a bus, Roe bodies had been given an extension of life by vehicle examiners and were still in use after 14 years.

• The matter arose over a request from the Tyneside branch of the National Union of Vehicle Builders that the contract should be placed with a Sunderland bodybuilder, who had quoted £144 per body in excess of Roe's price,
