MR H C. SIMMONDS has become general manager of Portsmouth Transport Department, in succession to MR. BEN Hari, who retired at the end of January after 25 years with the department. Mr. Simmonds, formerly deputy general manager. came to Portsmouth in 1942 from Cleethorpes Corporation, where he had been works superinten dent. He had previously been with Southend Corporation. His successor as deputy general manager is MR. A. W. FIELDER, who joined the undertaking as a conductor in 1925:passing through the stages of driver, inspector, chief schedules clerk and traffic superintendent before his promotion to his present post.
