Why? Because if the EC doesn't interfere with Norbert's acquisition of TOG, then the combined businesses will rank third behind OHL and Wincanton.
The combined businesses' numbers in the UK look like this: total turnover in 2009 would have been 2957m; their fleet totals 2,200 vehicles and 3,150 trailers, while between them the two businesses employ 13,000 staff at more than 200 sites.
As we went to press, the only clear decision about the future of TOG is the culling of its name and brand: the position of its senior management team, including chief executive Mike Branigan (seriously impressive at the Chartered Institute of Transport and Logistics annual conference in June), was unclear.
