TITLE MD I ORGANISATION MaritimeTransport This time last year Maritime Transport was a well-respected player in the container sector. Just as we published the inaugural Power Players list over Christmas 2009, John Williams took his business to pole position in the sector after buying DHL's container arm.
So, he now owns the company in which he made his name: he joined Russell Davies in 1976, rising to MD; the business was sold to Securicor, then to DHL: Williams joined Hutchinson Ports and bought Maritime from his then employer in 2001. He has taken Maritime into multi-modal logistics, after becoming the operator of the Riverside Rail Terminal at the Port of Tilbury, and is targeting retail distribution.
