-SiX bus operators;.inchiding the West Riding Automobile C; Ltd., Yorkshire Traction Co., Ltd., 'and South Yorkshire Motors, Ltd., appealed against a decision of the :Yorkshire Licensing Authority that, services -terminating. at. oi pass-ing through, Pontefract should use a bus station which the corporation were to build.

They also appealed against an order

• (requiring Ministerial confirmation) of the town council designating Horsefair parking place as the site of the station. , Mr. W. R. Hargraves, for the appellants, Said. the proposed bus station would not he ideally kited. Because of Pontefract's traffic congestion, steps might be. taken to improve and sign-post a road as an effective by-pass, and Serious thought should be given to deviating Doncaster and south-bound traffic, without building an: expensive bus station.

The . operators would go into any bus station the moment there was need, but no need had been established.

Mr.. J. F. Rook, town clerk, said the corporation had made genuine attempts to fit bus traffic into the streets, but it had outgrown capacity. Improvement could be achieved only by removing • bus stands from the town centre. A bus station would be preferable for passenger comfort.

The authorities had given bus operators free facilities in the streets for as long as they could.
