• Your editorial and report on the Cranfield investigation into overtaking and the subsequent letter from Mr Douglas has prompted me to write to remind him and your readers of the work of The Lorry Driver of the Year Association in promoting and encouraging safety and skill among lorry drivers.
Commercial Motor, as sponsors, suppported us in our endeavours for nearly 20 years.
To reply to Mr Douglas, participation in the competition encourages and tests skilled driving and attracts support from safety-conscious transport companies large and small. Wider support for the competition from all transport operators by entering their
drivers would be a positive response to those who condemn all drivers on the basis of the actions of the lunatic fringe.
