Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

regarding the inspection of fuel tanks at EEC borders (CM August 9). Like yourselves I believed that the current limit of 200 litres dutyfree diesel was only adhered to by the French and Germans.

However, on July 31, 1986, one of our trucks received a fine for importing in the vehicles standard fuel tank 190 litres in excess of the 200 allowed, not abroad but in Portsmouth, having returned from Le Havre.

I would be interested to know the official position of such fines, and of other operators' similar experiences. In the meantime, perhaps the item referring to duty-free diesel, read "the current limit is 200 litres, which is adhered to by only the Germans, French and UM Customs, Portsmouth.
