LINCOLN APPLICATION FAILS.

THE application by Lincoln Corpora

tion to operate buses from the city boundary to North Hykeham has been refused by the East Midland Traffic Commissioners. The inquiry was held at Nottingham on July 27th.

As reported in last week's issue, if the corporation's application had succeeded, Kesteven County Council proposed to take out an injunction against the authority.

FORTHCOMING EVENTS BEFORE THE COMMISSIONERS.

THERE will be considerable opposition from the London Coach Owners Federation and the Taxi Drivers League to applications by the London and North Eastern Railway, the London, Midland and Scottish Railway Co. and the Southern Railway Co., at the sitting of the Metropolitan Traffic Commissioner, in London, on September 1st2nd. There will, of course, be other objectors, notably the London General Omnibus Co., Ltd.

When the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners sit at Leeds, on August 30th31st, applications in connection with • stage carriages will chiefly be concerned, the corporations of Leeds and Bradford being prominent applicants.

TO RUN OUTSIDE CITY.

CONSENT has been granted to Hud

dersfield Corporation by the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners to the operation of buses on certain roads outside the city. The public inquiry was held at Huddersfield on July 26th.

TARING OVER SERVICES.

THE East Midland Traffic Commis sioners have received several applications for licences and backings for services taken over from other operators.

Backings are being sought by Green Line Coaches, Ltd., for a licence for the. London-Aylesbury route (previously operated by Red Rover Saloon Coaches) ; Trent Motor Traction Co., Ltd., for a licence for a Leek-Ashbourne service (previous backing granted to Messrs. S. P. Radford) ; Potteries Electric Traction Co., Ltd., for a licence to continue excursions and tours from Leek (previously operated by Messrs. G. Mayer) ; Roscoe (Coachways), Ltd., for a licence to continue excursions and tours from Bolton (previous backing granted to Messrs. J. Roscoe) ; and Messrs. J. L. Jones for a licence to continue excursions and tours from Smethwiek (previous backing granted to Messrs. W. S. Hodgkins).

Road-service licences are being sought by Premier Motor Services to continue services from Scunthorpe to Thorne, Crowle and Goole (previous licences granted to Messrs. H. Barningham). SUCCESSFUL APPEALS.

ORDERS have been made on the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners in connection with appeals by Mrs. Nellie Sadler, Normanton, against the refusal • of the Commissioners to license an Altofts-Wakefield service, and the United (Castleford and District) Motor Service, Castleford, against the Commissioners' refusal to license a Castleford-Pontefract service.

An Order on the Western Traffic Commissioners has been made in favour of Olympic Motor Services, Ltd., Southsea, so long as the Southern Commissioners vary certain licence conditions in respect of the company's Southsea-Bristol service.

GLASGOW SERVICE ALTERED.

ON August 14th Glasgow Corporation ceased its limited-stop service on the Crookston-Knightswood route, a reversion being made to the previous system.
