Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Cumbrian haulier West Coast T&R has gone into liquidation owing £250,000 and adding another chapter to the eventful history of its owner, Brian McNichol.

Creditors of the Silloth-based firm met in Carlisle last week: John Kelmanson of Kelmanson & Partners and Elaine Wilcox of Armstrong Watson were appointed joint liquidators.

This is not the first time a McNichol venture has faltered.

According to records at Companies House, McNichol, of Maryport, has been a director of: Cumbria Contract Hire, which was dissolved in the early 1990s; Cumbria Transport Services, where a liquidator was appointed in 1996 although it is still operating; and Braeside Assist Management, which was incorporated at the end of last year and remains in business.

Six county court judgements have been issued against West Coast T&R in the past five years. McNichol's wife Shirley was company secretary; neither was available for comment.

Reasons behind the firm's collapse included the loss of its main contract, transporting car seat foam for Johnson Controls Automotive of Silloth; inadequate margins; and the need for new equipment.

The company had about 10 vehicles and employees.
