PROPOSALS for a second plate to be fitted to vehicles operating according to Construction and Use Regulations and Special Types Order have been welcomed by the Freight Transport Association.
The Department of Transport has put forward the proposal following Road Haulage Association concern about instances in which operators got into difficulty with enforcement authorities in Yorkshire.
But it does not want the current 12mph special types speed limit to be specified on the second plate as this may slow any progress towards an increase in this speed limit.
The 12mph limit operated initially when all lorries were restricted to 20mph and has not been increased in line with other speed limit revisions.
