More than 80 suppliers will be displaying their wares at CM's first-ever accessories and components exhibition. Their range of products is enormous — auxiliary lighting, brakes, tachos, tyres and livery and much, much more, as Bryan Jarvis's preview explains ANUFACTURERS of vehicle cessories and components are .ually relegated to background enery at the major motor ows and exhibitions while the -ger vehicle, trailer and body alders steal the limelight.

This year CM has reversed this uation by holding an Accessom and Components exhibition CE) at the West Centre Hotel, lie Road, Fulham, April 27-29, which component manufacrers will be able to display and !monstrate their products to a transport world without the ual distractions.

More than 80 exhibitors will ow their current range of proicts, together with a number of me developments. These will backed up with on-the-spot pertise to describe the relative erits of exhibits which cover e whole transport spectrum.

Its main exhibit is Croner's Road Transport Operation, a loose-leaf reference book with monthly updates which gives accurate references to road transport legislation, Acts of Parliament and EEC regulations.

Another publication is its pocket-sized Professional Driver's Guide, which gives an instant source of reference to the points of law that a driver out on the road needs to know.

A textbook to assist applicants to pass the Certificate of Professional Competence is Croner's Elements of Road Transport Management. This and others on small business, export, import and employment law are still all to be seen on Croner's stand.

Cummins will be exhibiting its new 186.5kW (250bhp) 10-litre turbocharged, six-cylinder truck and bus engine. Although only recently introduced, it has registered some success with several of Britain's leading operators.

Its parts division will have on view a range of its genuine spare parts and will present various operator-assistance programmes.

Daf is displaying its special Visar driver simulator to demonstrate its benefits to drivers and operators alike.

This fuel-economy indicator consists of a gauge, which is colour coded to show the driver how economically he is driving and a set of three warning lights.

These tell the driver to change down if the engine is labouring, up if the engine speed is unnecessarily fast or half a gear for even better results, if a splitter box is fitted.

Visar monitors the engine speed, load and fuel consumption constantly and records in its memory the engine's performance characteristics.

Also at the Daf stand will be details of its back up, parts and service facilities, together with a wide range of accessories on display alongside information on its comprehensive Dafex parts-exchange scheme.

Tel: 0941.00.25 Dinex is a specialist in the development and production of exhaust systems for heavy-duty trucks and buses with silencers of up to 0.4m (15.7in) diameter and 1.5m (59in) in length, bending and routing of pipes up to 114mm (4.5in) diameter.

Its latest Circle Clamp, for which there is a patent pending, can tighten pipes which are 10 per cent smaller than the clamp because of its flexible construction and its compressed steel manufacture.

Econocruise will be promoting its vehicle speed control system. This push-button, speed selection system is designed to benefit the driver by allowing easy compliance with 48, 64 and 80km/h (30, 40 and 50mph), and maximum speed limits.

It also removes some of the physical strain from the driver by allowing him to rest his right foot.

Operators will be interested to know about the benefits in fuel usage and reduced wear and tear on transmission components, brakes and tyres as well as improved road safety.

Econocruise is hoping to have a display unit that will demonstrate the principles of its gear shift programmer (CM, December 25 1982).

It will also be taking bookings for demonstrations of the speed control and gearshift programming in its Ford Transcontinental or Volvo F12.

FLETTNER VENTILATOR LTD Stand 62 2 Basing Hill, London NW11 8TH.

Flettner's new, 2,000 rotary ventilator provides the perfect answer to ventilation problems in commercial vehicles using its spinning rotor at speeds up to 3,00Orpm.

It removes odours, fumes and cigarette smoke and does it in a quiet and unobtrusive manner. Being weather proof, neither rain nor dust can get in and because it is an extractor there are no unpleasant draughts.

The ventilator is easily fitted, especially when fitted with the special shutter unit, the upper part of which serves as a convenient mounting block. Its function is to regulate the extra extraction performance in winter.

Flettner claims that once fitted, the 2,000 can be forgotten as it needs no maintenance. It requires only the slightest breeze to set the rotor in motion which allows extraction to take place even when the vehicle is parked.

Air can be kept fresh at all times, preventing condensation.

Holset's stand will feature a number of new and remanufactured turbochargers. These are simple, lightweight and designed for a broad operating range of vehicles, operating in exhaust temperatures up to 750°C. Their rotors are capable of turning at speeds of up to 150,000rpm using fully floating bearings lubricated by engine oil.

Over 60 per cent of HolseVE production is exported, with worldwide service suppon through Lucas CAV turbo clinic5 and turbo stockists in addition to the vehicle manufacturers outlets.

Technical service and parts marketing personnel will be in attendance throughout the exhibition to discuss service topics.

Among Hope Technical Development's exhibits is its device to counteract the dangerous and costly effects when tractive units and semi-trailers jackknife. It is designed to cater for a wide range of loading and distribution, wheelbase variations, irregular braking torque and different tractive units. The device is standard on Scania and Neoplan articulated pusher buses.

Its Scrutineer test unit is also on display. The is designed for testing trailer braking systems and electrical circuits, and is particularly useful for operators with limited workshop space as it allows diagnostic work to be carried out, outside and without a tractive unit.

An under-run protective device that uses rubber springs as the energy absorption medium is also to be exhibited. Known as the Safe-T-Bar, it includes an audible warning buzzer that activates on contact with an obstacle and has a swingback feature to let the bar ride back over minor obstructions.

IMI's display illustrates the range of products and services offered by its 70 branches across the UK.

The company offers a comprehensive repair or replacement service for all types of radiator and it also specialises in oil coolers, heaters and fuel tanks.

Its product range includes vehicle number plates available in impact resistant acrylic or heavy duty embossed aluminium. Hgv marker boards made to British Standards, Jubilee clips and easy to work Kunifer 10 brake tubing will also be displayed.

lsringhausen manufactures seats for every type of commercial vehicle from agricultural tractors to buses, coaches and heavy lorries. Both suspension and static seats are included in a product line-up which has made lsringhausen one of the market leaders in its field.

The ISRI 5000/385 suspension seat features a hard wheel weight adjustment, spring loaded height and slope adjustment and a quick release. Its companion, the ISRI 1000/385, is a static seat which can still have the same sophisticated adjustments of the 5000/385.

Owing to the importance of the driver's seat, many countries have regulations which stipulate the form and quality of the seat as well as its maximum load capabilities.

Jost, which claims to be Europe's leading fifth-wheel and landing gear manufacturer, is promoting its new SV36DR sliding fifth-wheel assembly.

Designed for use at the new gross weight limit of 38 tonnes it combines robust construction with lightness. Although it is even suitable for 42 tonne operation it weighs only 244kg (5381b) excluding the vehicle subframe.

Jost feels that its new sliding assembly will be very useful for the unpredictable kingpin positions of the maximum weight semi trailers and virtually essential for the new breed of 6x2 tractive units.

The Jost GB/E200's landing legs are suitable for lifting 24 tonnes with a maximum static capacity of 50 tonnes. Landing legs can be supplied with a variety of backplates to suit all types of semi-trailers including heavy duty versions for export and special folding legs designed to reduce damage on roll-on/roll-off operations.

The Kingswinford stand will reflect the wide service support that its fuel injection service organisation offers to vehicle manufacturers and fleet operators alike.

As official agents for Lucas CAV diesel and auto electrical components, it will supply new or rebuilt units on request from its three West Midlands, South West and Shropshire and Wales branches, on a 24-hours basis.

It operates a very active fleet of service vans with CAV trained staff using radio communications which are operative on diesel/fuel injection pumps and auto electrical work. They are backed up by stocks of parts which cover fuel injection pumps, injectors, nozzles, turbochargers, starter motors, alternators and many other components.

A recently introduced 330mm (13in) single plate push type clutch assembly will be among Lipe-Rollway's exhibits. The 131DLB, which was introduced at last year's Motor Show and specifically designed for trucks with engine torques from 271.2542.4Nm (200-400Ibft).

It will be shown alongside Lipe's extensive range of manual adjust units which includes 330mm (13in) single plate 355mm (14in) twin plate, and 393mm (15.5in) twin plates to cover any vehicle model in the 271.2-2,034N m (200-1,5001 bft) engine torque spectrum.

Fully interchangeable with competitive units, the 13-1DLB contains all standard Lipe features such as direct drive via pressure plate lugs onto hardened steel pads on the lightweight pressed steel cover. To ensure compatibility with a wide range of vehicle transmissions, disc configurations of 34.9, 38.1, 42.5, 44.4mm (1.375, 1.5, 1.675, 1.75in) diameter SAE splines.

Also on show, following its market introduction, is Lipe's Spline-Saver assembly, which comprises an adapter shaft and two discs with over sized hubs which fit directly on to the device's adaptor. The hubs fit over worn transmission input shaft splines, thus extending spline life and saving downtime.

These units will be displayed with Lipe's 14-2LP 355mm (14in) twin-plate unit with cast cover and organic facings and its 142LP Lightweight which offers 4.5 to 5.4 kg (10-121b) weight saving through its pressed steel cover and its high capacity ceramic facings and paddle disc.

For super heavy vehicles there will be the 15.5-2LP, specially suited to trucks with engine torques of 1,084.8-2,034Nm (8001,500Ibft).

Operators with mixed fleets often have to visit several different parts suppliers to keep their vehicles operational so the Multipart programme exhibits will be of special interest to them.

Engine, braking, steering, suspension, chassis and electrical assemblies and components as well as an attractive range of accessories are a feature of the Multipart product.

Details will be shown on its Red Card priority parts delivery service which is aimed at keeping its customers' down time and running costs to a minimum.

The Wearcheck programme for testing used oils is applicable to samples taken from engines, transmissions, gearboxes and axle units but the most direct application is in the routine monitoring of engine oils to identify impending defects and causes when they start to develop. It also allows greater flexibility in maintenance planning.

Typical of the problems detected are abnormal wear on moving parts, internal coolant leaks, fuel dilution, excessive soot and oil oxidisation, all of which can lead to costly engine failures.

Visitors to this stand will be able to obtain details of possible applications to their fleets.

In addition to oil, the Wearcheck service includes coolant and fuel testing which can also prevent expensive engine damage. Suitable sampling pumps will be displayed.

SAB will be featuring several of its products, prominent among which will be its Twin Drier. This is a twin cartridge air drier for compressed air systems on heavy vehicles, that allows one cartridge's dessicant to be drying (regenerating) while the other is busy taking moisture out of the compressed air.

Other exhibits will be its Automatic slack adjuster, heated drain valve and its load sensing system for both mechanical and pneumatic governor.

TI Tube Products, a member of TI Group, claims to be the UK's largest producer of electronic resistance welded-steel tube with extensive experience in tube manipulation and fabrication.

A large proportion of the company's turnover is in the motor transport area and its products are used extensively to manufacture components such as exhaust systems, steering gear, propshafts, axles and vehicle seat frames.

TI's energy-absorbing Rearguard is claimed to cost half the price of other similar devices, and relies on the progressive collapse and subsequent replacement of its metal cartridges.

TI Rearguard is supplied as a kit through a network of 40 UK distributors.

Details will be displayed of its Europfast Parcels Express operation which gives a guaranteed 48-hour door to door nationwide parcels delivery service between UK and Europe. This includes the UK collection, export documentation and handling, UK-Europe transit, import handling and European handling. An extension of this is its dedicated express van service which operates from the UK to anywhere in Europe.

TNT's service includes such features as Saturday service, radio equipped vans, Freefone service, simplified documentation and calculations.

Webasto manufactures a wide range of diesel burning heaters, suitable for many applications on commercial vehicles and some of them will be displayed on its stand. Its heaters are designed to withstand intensive use and to give reliable service under extreme conditions.

As more and more drivers are spending the night in their cabs, heaters such as Webasto's 2.3kW model run longer hours under thermostatic control to warm the cabs on very cold nights.
