Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

DONALD LAUDER was dismissed from his position as production manager with LEP Transport, East Kilbride, after allegations that he had leaked information to a rival firm.

Following a casual conversation with a client firm, a LEP representative reported information which led to an investigation. That showed that a rival transport firm had tendered a lower offer to the client for removal of machinery.

The company had received a written statement from the client about the estimates. It said further that when questioned, Mr Lauder had been "very vague" and gave the impression he was trying to cover something up. He was later dismissed.

In evidence, the applicant said it was absolute rubbish to contend that he had leaked information and claimed: "I was utterly loyal to LEP and still am."

The tribunal ordered reinstatement and a payment of £3,096 against loss of earnings.
