What exactly does this involve AType approval is the term used to de: cribe an arrangement, expected become a legal requirement in the not to distant future, whereby vehicle manufacturei will have to obtain approval for the design vehicles from the DoE before the vehicle is pi on the market.
Approval will be given on the basis of th vehicle submitted meeting certain prescribe requirements regarding its design. construi tion, equipment and marking. This is expecte to include such details as the performance braking systems, the minimum power engines and safety requirements such as th protection of wiring, brake and fuel lines, ar so on.
A certificate of type approval will be issue and the manufacturer will then, when sellin vehicles of that type, issue a certificate cor firming that it meets DoE standards.
Subsequent modifications to the vehicle c improvements to the design will requir further official approval.
