F. M. (Frank( McGill was elected president of the Scottish Road Passenger Transport Association at the agm at Gleneagles on Tuesday. and J. W. Tweedie vice-president. Mr McGill is chairman and managing director of McGill's Bus Service Ltd, Barrhead, Renfrewshire, which operates a trunk bus service from Barrhead to Renfrewshire via Paisley, together with private-hire contract work. He served an apprenticeship in engineering before going into the family business. Mr McGill is a national vice-chairman of the PVOA, and immediate past area chairman of the Association's Scottish area. Mr. Tweedie has been an executive director of the Scottish Bus Group since January 1, 1970. He started his career with the LMS Railway in 1927, and worked on the last railway bus service before it was taken over by W. Alexander and Sons Ltd in 1922.

Robert V. Nlathers, 42, has been appointed Rubery OwenRockwell Ltd manager, product engineering and reliability, for its new axle, suspension and brake manufacturing plant at Llay, Denbighshire. Mr Matners has been with North American Rockwell at Troy, Michigan, for the past two years. David Gent, for the past six years secretary of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, became deputy director as from yesterday. This is a new position within the Society. Succeeding Mr Gent as secretary is Michael Feather who is replaced as legal adviser by Robert Fish.

Alf Steel, Keswick depot superintendent for Cumberland Motor Services, was presented with his 50-year long-service bar and an armchair by company chairman G. Brook at the firm's annual dinner in Whitehaven.

G. D. Gates (Unigate Ltd) has been elected chairman of the Surrey and South Middlesex area of the London and Home Counties division of the Freight Transport Association; S. D. Barrett (Hawker Siddeley Aviation Ltd), A. M. Lawford (Joseph Lucas (Electrical) Ltd), and E. Povey (London Carriers Ltd) are vice-chairmen; G. E. Haynes (Tate and Lyle Transport Ltd), is secretary.

E. S. Brown (G.K.N., South Wales) has been elected chairman of the South Wales centre of the Institute of Transport Administration; J. W. Gerrish (Taff Transit Ltd) is past chairman: G. B. Emery {BRS), K. J. Noble (Bitish Vinegars) vice-chairmen; A. R. Farr (City of Cardiff Transport) secretary.

D. R. Hutchings, who has recently been elected chairman of the London division of the Industrial Transport Association (CM April 9), is, he informs us, group transport co-ordinator of Thorn Electrical Industries Ltd; we incorrectly listed him as Thorn-AEI Radio Valves and Tubes Ltd.
