• Opening on the Silloth airfield on the Cumberland Solway Firth coast on May 3 is a school for training heavy transport drivers. It is under the auspices of the RTITB and 38 haulage firms in the county are co-operating, starting with hired vehicles until new ones promised by the Board are available.
The chairman of the Cumberland Hauliers' Training Association, Mr Harry Pickthall, said: "Member firms, of course, will have priority but gradually we shallhave to extend the facilities to smaller firms which are not members. Eventually, maintenance courses will also be run in conjunction with the driving school." .
