Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE difficulty of finding suitable and adequate parking accommodation for motor coaches in busy inland centres and favourite coastal resorts is a problem which is causing not a little concern to licensing and police authorities. In many cities and towns a ban is now placed on the parking of motors in the principal thoroughfares and, if insistence be not laid upon the desirability of proceeding to a definite place for setting down passengers, a time limit is usually made for the discharge of the passengers, after which the vehicle must be driven to a garage or an authorized parking site. This is undoubtedly a wise procedure, for it eases the problem of traffic congestion which, in the ease of many popular resorts having narrow main highways, is extremely acute.

The authorities in many centres have foreseen that the increasing popularity of the motor coach has placed an onus on them to provide proper parking sites and, for the most part, they have met their obligations in this respect in a Pntisfactory manner, sometimes making a nominal charge for the facilities and in others providing free accommodation for vehicles making a short stay in the area concerned.

In London the problem is unusually complex, for the reason that there are so few central sites that can be used by large vehicles without manoeuvring troubles arising, whilst the fact that the needs of private-car owners have also to be considered aggravates the situation. In addition, the limit of two hours' stay, imposed in the case of cars, demands frequent movements.

It may not be generally known that, so far as the metropolitan area is concerned, it is not incumbent on the licensing authority to provide Standing accommodation for vehicles which are not licensed by e26 the Scotland Yard authorities, but, on the other hand, it will interest many owners to know that there is a large number of authorized standings in the Metropolitan Police afea for their vehicles.

For this reason the official compilation reproduced below will, we feel sure, be of considerable value, especially as the season is fast approaching when many new vehicles will find their way into public set-vice and be running to and from London. Incidentally, it will satisfy many enquirers Who have been in touch with us on the matter.
