BIRMINGHAM REMAINS the number one hotspot for ‘crash-for-cash’ scams for the sixth consecutive quarter, according to the Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB).

Latest statistics also show that parts of the south coast are becoming targets for criminals staging accidents in a bid to make thousands of pounds in fraudulent insurance claims.

Portsmouth and Brighton appear for the irst time at 20th and 16th, and Guildford and Reading also make a debut appearance in the top 20. Shefield is second, with Manchester and Nottingham third and fourth.

IFB director Glenn Marr says he hopes to have data speciically concerning HGVs within the next three months. “There are crash-for-cash incidents regularly going on involving commercial vehicles, and insurers are tackling it,” he says.
