Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

UK OIL consumption during the first six months of 1967 amounted to 40,819,256 tons (exclusive of bunker fuel for ships in the foreign trade). Releasing these figures, the Petroleum Information Bureau states that this is an increase of 10.6 per cent above the corresponding consumption for the first half of 1966.

Just over half the total comprised fuel oil, gas oil and diesel oil. Consumption of this group of products amounted to 20,604,740 tons, apart from a further 2,399,612 tons used in the refineries themselves, and represented a rise of 8.1 per cent.

Heavier demand by road haulage operators brought a 5.7 per cent increase in the use of derv—consumption amounting to 2,135,409 tons.
