Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

by Karen Miles • Ventura International is to make "an orderly retreat" from international haulage. The eight-yearold operation will be closed down over the next few months.

Managing director John van Geest says rates pressure over the past two years means the company would not be able to make a "satisfactory return" on any investment in new trucks.

"With this backcloth... the directors have, therefore, decided to withdraw from this market before the end of the year," Geest adds.

The Boston, Lines haulier has 21 staff, including 15 drivers. Most will be made redundant and its fleet of 15 trucks and refrigerated trailers will be sold privately.

The company operates from a five-acre freehold site on the A17, specialising in the haulage of fruit and other temperaturecontrolled goods with 5,000m2 of warehousing.

John van Geest is part of the van Geest banana family, but Ventura is an independent company.
