A HAULIER who had been fined £110 ra earlier this year after being convicted on 55 charges of failing to keep current records successfully applied last week for the renewal of two B licences. The Northern Licensing Authority, Mr. I. A. T. Hanlon, sitting in Carlisle, made the grant to Mr. Robert Armstrong of William Armstrong (Longtown) Ltd. The licences were for two vehicles used for transporting livestock, milk, lime, sand and gravel to and from his farm at Longtown.

Armstrong said he acknowledged full responsibility for the convictions, as managing director of the company. He pleaded that his wife had been ill earlier in the year and for a while things got the better of him. "I am perfectly confident I can run my business properly, and I feel that I have been sufficiently punished for the records offences", he added.
