This week on TruckNet UK the topics under discussion are as diverse as always. From biofuels to longer, heavier vehicles (LHVs), members of the transport industry continue to use the forums to gain crucial information and fresh perspectives.

Are biofuels an option for trucks? Owner-drivers are interested in the possible cost savings, and an interesting discussion is taking place with input from drivers as far afield as Australia.

Still in the Owner-Driver and Small Fleet forum, an increasing number of drivers are talking about taking militant action over fuel prices. While many still say that this will be pointless as the big boys will not get involved, more and more small operators are discussing what they consider to be desperate measures to highlight the problems that high fuel prices are creating in their business.

Drivers are using the forums to help UK drivers held in prisons overseas for unknowingly transporting drugs. An e-mail campaign to MPs, HMRC and various media (both transport and mainstream) is under way, and a driver has started the process of getting an 'e-petition' listed an the Prime Minister's website. The question of LI-IVs is being discussed by drivers; a driver with experience of test driving the Denby roadtrain provides first-hand knowledge of how the vehicles handle. Many drivers feel there is not a need in the UK for these set-ups, and others point out that a driver of such a truck is unlikely to get paid much more for all the extra hassle.

For those with an interest in photos of trucks and hauliers from days gone by, the TruckNet UK Transport Photo forum has a wealth of images, from vintage to Middle East runs, and almost everything in between.

Coupled with memories and tales from drivers, the forum provides many unique snapshots into the lives of trucks, truck drivers and haulage companies.
