Martin Taylor, managing ector of P&OTE, believes one the reasons his company s chosen by the VI for the .ee-year contract was its 3acity to store large mumof vehicles.

"Potentially, it could build into quite big numbers, 3ending on the size of the Nem. Rumours have always

been around the industry that It is quite substantial. I don't think anybody knows the size of the contract. It will be interesting to see what develops over the next year."

According to a VI fleet compliance survey, 1% of the UK's 420,000 truck fleet over 3.5 tonnes is used without an 0licence.

Taylor says the role of P&OTE and its 12 sub-contractors will be to collect and store the vehicles securely. Collection will take place within two hours of receiving notification of a seizure.

P&OTE already provides secure vehicle pounds for Customs & Excise and the immigration service. These contracts have led to a £9 million investment at Dover in a 4,650m2 warehouse and parking for 1,000 vehicles. Taylor says the facility, due to open in March, will probably be used for the VI contract as well.

He adds that 150 employees who work on the Customs and Immigration contracts will also work on the VI contract. "At this stage, we're not planning to take on anybody else," says Taylor.
