• At meetings in Geneva last week, the International Road Transport Union (I RU) fully supported the attitude taken by Britain's PV0A on the reduction of drivers' hours without convincing road safety evidence. There was general concern about the economic consequences of the new limits being introduced on the Continent as well as in Britain.
The representative of the Hungarian association—a government-sponsored organization —confirmed that its own investigations had shown that the first two hours of driving was the most critical time for accidents.
