The prototype of a new range of heavy vehicles 120.1 ,fast been completed by Scammell Lorries Ltd. To he known as the Contractor series, models for both home and overseas markets are to he produced, with gross train weight ratings of up to 75 tons and engines of up to 400 b.h.p. output. Load-carriers, tractive units and road tractors will be included, and speeds of up to 60 nap Jr. and gradient abilities of up to 1 in 4 can be provided, according to choice of engine and transmission. No further details of the Contractor are being released at the moment, but close study of Me photo-. graph supplied by the manufacturers shows that it has Leyland axles.
