Strongarm Jacks up to 10 Tons ARANGE of five models of hydraulic vehicle jacks has been developed by Armstrong Patents Co. Ltd. Called Strongarm jacks, there are three capacities-5-, 8and 10-ton—the smaller two being made in alternative farms.

The general design of each model is the same, features including a steel cylinder on a forged-steel base. The cylinder is surrounded by an outer tubular casing, the space between providing a reservoir for the hydraulic fluid. The pump unit is of cast iron and can be removed from the base for maintenance.

All the jacks have screw extensions and in the case of the 5-ton models, the 5S and 5L, a screw lift of 4-25 in. is provided. Closed heights of the two models vary and so do the ram extensions. With the 5S the closed height is 7-75 in. and the ram extension 5-5 in., which with the full screw extension gives a maximum total height of 17-5 in. Comparable figures for the 51. are 8.75 in., 6-25 in. and 19-25 in,

There is a similar variation between the two 8-ton models, which are the 8S and the R.. The KS has a closed height of 9 in., a ram extension of 6-25 in. and with a 4-5-in, screw extension gives a total height of 19-75 in. There is a 4-94-in. screw extension provided on the 8L, which has a closed height of 9-5 in., and in this case the ram extension is 6.69 in., giving a total height of 21-12 in.

The final jack is the Model 10, which has a capacity of 10 ton. Closed height is 9-63 in„ screw extension 4.5 in., ram extension 6-5 in. and total height is 2063. in.

Three types of saddle can be supplied on the jacks: flat with small lips at the two narrow edges, the central level portion measuring 2.5625 in. by 1-5 in.; recessed, being of similar design to the flat saddle but with a central portion measuring 3.125 in. by 1-5 in. and with a 2-in.-radius recess in the centre. The third type of head is round, 2 in, in diameter, with curved recesses at right angles to each other, The recesses are at a 1-25-in, radius.

Rubber Lubricant SQUEAKS caused by rubber components moving against adjacent metal parts—such as at bonded-rubber shackle bushes and suspension joints—can be eliminated quickly by using Rubber Lubricant introduced by Holt Products Ltd. This has a silicone base and is sold in a 6-oz. aerosol container.

The film produced dries in a few seconds and is non-tacky, so that dust is not attracted, and it is completely harmless to clothes and so can be used on door weatherstrips—Holts Rubber Lubricant also acts as a preservative to rubber.
