Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

rOMPLAINTS concerning the rates of payment to hauliers employed by Bradford Corporation were made during a discussion on rates stabilization, at a meeting of the transport section of Bradford Chamber of Trade, on Monday.

The complaints chiefly referred to the street drainage and works department, which, it was stated, paid hauliers 3s. 6d. per hour, but it was also contended that contractors employed by other departments were underpaid, and that the low rates for street work had been used as a lever for reducing the price for other classes of work.

The corporation's haulage rates, one speaker pointed out, more or less determined the general level of charges for local work paid for on an hourly basis. It was decided to request Bradford Corporation to receive a deputation from the section, with a view to asking for higher rates. One speaker mentioned that Huddersfield Corporation pays 6s. an hour.

The following were appointed members of the deputation :—Messrs. Goodwin (vice-chairman of the section), F. Pickering (hon. secretary), Harry Clark, J, W. Preston, and J. W. Rush.

The meeting, which was primarily for short-distance hauliers, appointed a new committee to deal with shortdistance rates, its members being Messrs. J. W. Preston, J. W. Rush, G. Whitaker, F. Lawley, C. J. Fox, M. Field, and W. Jones.

A meeting for long-distance hauliers will be held next week, to discuss the stabilization of long-distance rates.
