The Latest Doings and Developments in the Bus and Coach World A SMALL ALL-WEATHER COACH.

A Design Incorporating Adjustable Side-lights and a Conventional Type of Hood.

CONTTRARY to the fact that the widening of our roads will probably tend to cultivate the use of larger vehieleS, there is at the present time a definite tendency amongstmotor –coach owners in the Midlands to run smaller and speedier chassis. Many of the small coaches in use incorporate a number of refinements which were absent in earlier models, and some of them are fitted with all-weather body equipment., which affords the passenger ad-equate protectien from the elements.

-A motor coach body of this description is being built by John Buckingham and Co., Ltd., Bradford Street, Birmingham, and one of its outstanding features is the inclusion of side-lights which can be raised and lowered. Lights of this kind can be utilized for performing the duties Of keeping the occupants dry when the bond is drawn over, or, on the other hand, they can be independently adjusted with regard to height for the purpose of protecting passengers from any irritating cross-wind and dust. 6 A typical example of the Buckingham body—a 1-seater—is clearly .shown in the accompanying illustrations on a Talbot chassis which has. been strengthened at the rear and fitted with solid tyres on the back wheels to render it ,suitable for motor coach work.

It wilt be noticed that there is one entrance door only to the body, which is'20 ins, wide, through which access is gained to the rear by a very neat arrange. ment of tip-up seat, whereby a portion of the hinged front seat is so designed that it can be tucked away into the dash and thus causes no interference to the driver and the two passengers whosit on his left.

A narrow gangway runs into the rear seat which, although not wide enough to he utilized for further accommodation, is just of sufficient width to allow passengers to pass through.

The body which we illustrate is a good example of modern coach design and gives an indication of the thought. which is shown for the passengers' comfort and convenience. Deep spring cases, which are well upholstered, certainly make for easy riding. The vehicle shown is painted a buff shade, and it certainly forms a speedy passenger travel unit.
