Officers from the Metropolitan Pace Projects Team team raided Hyde Haulage Yard in Chertsey, Surrey, where they saw drugs being unloaded from an artic into a white van. Some 77kg of cocaine was found within a metal structure fitted under the truck, which had carried salad produce from Spain Detective Inspector Grant Johnson says: "For this raid we didn't use a search warrant because we stopped the van leaving the premises. We arrested the Spanish lorry driver and the yard owner.

"We also have powers under section 17 of PACE to search hauliers' yards and arrest suspects. Under PACE there is the power to arrest on or off the premises."
