• by Kevin Swallow The outgoing Daf CF series hung its cap on its reputation as a solid workhorse. Now, as a new CF era dawns, Daf hopes that by taking the advice of its customers it will make the workhorse tag synonymous with driver satisfaction.

The thrust of the range is the operator's desire for a cost-effective truck that attracts good drivers: the result is a truck with XF appeal.

Until CII4gets the chance to road-test one in full we won't really know if this has been achieved, but in the meantime we settled for a drive around Malaga for first impressions. The CF range was debuted to UK operators this week at the CV show. The CF series will drive straight into Euro-3 territory when some of its range become available in May.

ence. The day and sleeper cab has been moved back 14cm, and a space cab version is available. Apart from that, it Still feels a little snug. However, more space behind the seats on the day cab version is an important development.

Cab noise is impressively low, and the four-point suspension offers a smooth ride. The electronic brake system with ABS is fitted, and ventilated disc brakes have replaced drums on the rear axles— this will also apply to the XF series.

The revamped chassis and the new engine position have reduced most of the tractor unit kerbweights—the CF75.360 is 6.4 tonnes, and the CF85.430 weighs 6.9 tonnes with half-full 430-litre tanks. Options include the ZF lntarder on the CF75 and CF85 and the Oaf Engine Brake on the CF85.
