Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Keywords : Normanton, Kitchin

Normanton, the Yorkshire coal town, on Wednesday in Leeds when a local operator, A. E. Gillard. applied to the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners for the town's fortnightly holiday services in August to coastal resorts. This service would operate over three week-ends.

The application was opposed by British Railways, Wallace Arnold Tours Ltd. and J. W. Kitchin and Sons Ltd.

For Gillard, Mr. H. C. Muscroft said that the applicant was the only one with a garage in Normanton and the only one which provided reserved accommodation on its coaches.

A partner in the company, Mr. B. Gillard, said that there had been a great demand for the services in the holiday fortnight and neither Wallace. Arnold nor Kitchin had picking up points in Normanton for that type of service. He did not think that there would be abstraction of traffic as there was plenty of room for additional services in the holiday period.

Mr. F. S. Marshall, for Wallace Arnold and Kitchin, pointed out that Wallace Arnold had a regular night service to Great Yarmouth during the summer months with picking up points at Wakefield and Castleford.

Major A. F. Ea_stwood. the chairman of the Traffic Commissioners, said he would announce his decision later.
