['HE receiver for a Carlisle contractor, 1 Robert Liddle Ltd., applied to the orthern Licensing Authority for zences for 34 vehicles in order to return te firm to the position it had been in !fore running into financial difficulties, was said at a public inquiry on /ednesday.

On October 1 last, Mr. W. C. Kyle as appointed receiver for Robert Liddle td., for at that time it got into difficulties ecause of excessive capital expenditure," iid Mr. G. Bean, representing Mr. Kyle t the inquiry.

Previously, Liddle had licences coverig 34 vehicles. "In November, 21 of the 3mpany's vehicles comprising 20 tippers nd a lowloader were repossessed by a ire purchase company," he went on, and on January 31 of this year, the eceiyer made a short-term application to over 23 vehicles and this was granted up 3 April 30.

"Of necessity this ranks as a new pplication, and of necessity also 12 .ppers and the lowloader have been hown as to be acquired because they /ere repossessed," Mr. Bean went on. "But, in fact, this is an application by he receiver to return the company to the .osition it has been in for years, a posiion which this Authority had approved nd which the company would have been a if the receiver had not been appointed." Four objectors opposed the application. Mr. J. A. T. Hanlon, the Northern ,icensing Authority, said none of the eitnesses in support of the application lad been able to speak in support of a .rant for tonnage additional to what the eceiver was already operating.

Accordingly, he granted a B licence for 2 vehicles to carry materials and plant or sites, roads and buildings within 60 niles of Carlisle.
