Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

(IN April 1 the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) 1,--.1(Amendment) Regulations: 1957 (Stationery Office, 6d.) come into operation. The principal changes concern mirrors, safety glass and indicators.

As from January 1, 195g, every passenger vehicle adapted to carry more than seven passengers exclusive of the driver, and every goods vehicle, including dual-purpose vehicles, must be equipped with at least two mirrors so as to show traffic at the rear and both sides rearward.

The use of safety glass, as prescribed by Regulation 17 of the Construction and Use 'Regulations, 1955, is to be extended. From January 1, 1959, safety glass must be employed for the windscreens and all outside windows of passenger and 'dual-purpose vehicles, and for the windscreens and all windows of goods vehicles in front of, and on each side of, the driver's seat.

The detailed provisions relating to direction indicators now a-2a

enable vehicles, already fitted with two flashing indicators at both front and rear, to carry additional indicators visible to road users alongside. All indicators, however, including any on trailers, must be operated from one switch.

Other additions or amendments include the widening (:+f the definition of a pneumatic tyre following the use of tubeless tyres. Trailer plates will no longer he necessary when the towing vehicle is a passenger motorcycle or a dualpurpose vehicle. The definition of a dual-purpose vehicle as given in the Motor Vehicles (Variation of Speed Limit) Regulations, 1955, is now embodied in the Construction and Use Regulations,

Emission of smoke or any other substance is no longer qualified by whether or not it could have been prevented by the exercise of reasonable care. The installation of television sets in motor vehicles is prohibited if they are visible to thc driver either directly or by reflection.
