ONE of five Operators who have been. granted permission to pick up pas sengers for east coasrsesorts at Boreham Wood is George Ewer and Co.. Ltd. The grant .is, however, of little

practical value.

Early last year, George Ewer successfully appealed against the refusal of the Metropolitan Deputy Traffic Commis sioner, Mr. C. Macdonald, to authorize them to run express services from Boreharn Wood. The Minister of Transport ordered that the applications shftild he re-heard.

In a reserved decision, the Metropolitan Traffic Commissioner, Brig. R. J. 0. Dowse, has authorized George Ewer arid Valliant Direct Coaches, Ltd., to pick up passengers for Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft.

Although they were refused permis sion to pick up • passengers on • theil feeder services to Eastbourne, Bournemouth, Portsmouth and Southsea. Venture Transport (Hendon), Ltd., and Lewis Cronshaw, Ltd., may eXtend•their feeders to take period-return passengers only to the resorts of Bognor and Littlehampton and Margate and Rams• gate, respectively.

Kirby's Coaches, Ltd., were granted a new service from Bushey to Claeton, but were refused a licence for an express service ,to Brighton and

Worthing, •

Picking up in Boreham Wood will, in each case, be permitted only on the bit three Saturdays in July and the first • three Saturdays in August.

Unsuccessful applications were thoseof Brunt's Coaches, Ltd., for a new service to Bournemouth and a variation of another to Margate; Lee's Luxury Coaches, Ltd., for a new service to Eastbourne and Hastings; and Mr. E. G. Hewitt (Premier Omnibus Co.), , Watford, for Lowestoft, Great Yarmouth and Southend.
