THE GOVERNMENT defence contract worth i'500in won by GKN Sankey of Telford, Shropshire, will have a spin-off benefit for another big Shropshire firm, Perkins Engines of Shrewsbury, it was revealed last week.
Perkins will he making the engines for more than 1,000 new tracked combat vehicles known as the MCV8 0 armoured personnel carriers. The Shrewsbury firm formerly the Rolls Royce diesel engine division will also make the engines for the new Challenger tanks to be built in Leeds.
