.A'ONE who has but a hazy idea

of the functioning of a gas turbine carp readily put themselves in a position to talk intelligently about this modern type of prime mover. The information is contained in "The Gas Turbine Manual," an entirely new work just published by Teniple Press Ltd., Bowling Green Lane, London, E.C.1.

Although it is difficult to avoid mathematical abstractitens in a book of this kind, the authors have succeeded in reducing such material to a 'minimum consistent with the efficient handling of the subject.

The manual deals in logical sequence with the early history of the gas turbine, first principles, metallurgy, elementary thermodynamics, the uni; components of an installation and, in the later chapters, with the application of the gas turbine to locomotives, boats, stationary plants, and so on.

Although aircraft gas turbines are excleded from the manual, one chapter is devoted to this aspect of their use. The price is 25s. 6d. by post.

THE newly published edition of the Royal Automobile Club's Guide to London is particularly useful to coach operators coming to London. Pocketsized, and designed for quick reference to listed and detailed information about parking places, no-waiting streets, hotels; theatres, cinemas and garages, the booklet also contains seven pages of large-scale street maps covering the centre of London.

AUSEFUL addition to literature treating with the maintenance of vehicle performance is " Automobile Efficiency," recently released by Trader Publishing Co., Ltd.

A description is given of the procedure for checking and adjusting every part of an engine, as well as the individual components in the electrical system. The book is priced at 10s. 6d.
